Who We Are

The Mid-Tex Human Resource Management Associations (MTHRMA) is comprised of Human Resource professionals, business owners, educators, and others involved with carrying out human resource functions or training in their organizations. Our group is mostly comprised of the mentioned professionals in the Brown Country area and surrounding counties.

Our chapter is a qualified Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter. Anyone who performs H.R. related functions in their occupation or is committed to advancing the human resource profession or education is welcomed in the group. Being a part of the MTHRMA allows for the sharing of information and practices among fellow professionals in the Central Texas region.

Texas employers can receive monetary incentives for hiring unemployed workers under a two-year, $15 million program promoted by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and funded by the Legislature last session.

Texas Back to Work offers employers subsidized-wage reimbursement, retention bonuses and other incentives for hiring qualified out-of-work Texans.  Texas Back to Work is available to employers through the 28 Texas local workforce development boards, which also provide employers with workforce recruitment assistance, pre-screening of qualified applicants and training programs.

Through the new program, some employers who hire people receiving unemployment benefits can receive a portion of the new employees’ wages for a set period of time. Another possible incentive would provide employers with up to $1,500 in wage-retention bonuses if they continue to employ the formerly out-of-work employees for at least 120 days.

Employers interested in participating should contact their local workforce development boards to learn about all options available in their areas and to help put Texas Back to Work.  There are several criteria surrounding the incentives. For more information, contact the workforce board in your area (Download .pdf file here).

History of the MTRHMA

The Association has been in existence, as limited records indicate, since 2000. The Association officially became a SHRM Chapter (Chapter #609) in August 2001.

Our Mission

As stated in our by-laws, our chapter was established for the following purposes:

(a) To provide assistance for the professional development of its members; (b) To provide leadership by establishing and supporting standards of excellence in Human Resources Management; (c) To provide the impetus for research to improve management techniques; (d) To serve as a focal point for the exchange of authoritative information; and (e) To make the general public and business community aware of the Human Management field to create a better understanding of its functions and importance.

The MTHRMA serves the needs of the Central Texas human resource management professional and those responsible for human resource functions and training by providing the best network of resources, both people and information, available in Central Texas. In addition, the Association is committed to advancing the human resource profession and the capabilities of all human resource professionals to ensure that HR is an essential and effective partner in developing and executing organizational strategy.
